“For a life that has been subjected to so much spilled ink, Mr. Roll has managed to encapsulate George C. Marshall’s inner voice better than any previous work. Mr. Roll’s literary monument to one of America’s most devoted soldiers is a powerful antidote to a Twitter-glutted era when political cynicism has reached its nadir and civic virtue has become a punch line.”—The Wall Street Journal“David Roll has brilliantly brought George Marshall to life in a biography chock full of revealing and inspiring moments, reminding us what real leadership can be.”—Evan Thomas, New York Times bestselling author of First: Sandra Day O'Connor “A deeply researched and masterfully written work that relies in part on never-used documents, one that should establish Marshall at the top of any list of American titans.”—The Washington Times“An overdue, authoritative biography of one of America's greatest soldier-statesmen… a definitive, nuanced portrait.”—Kirkus, starred review  “As a biographer of a key DC insider of the FDR era in The Hopkins Touch (2013), Roll is superbly well-suited for this approach to Marshall, and displays insight and balance in portraying his subject’s personal life and sterling character. A solid addition to twentieth-century American history.”—Booklist “David Roll's George Marshall couldn't come at a more crucial time. There's a growing conviction among Americans that their country no longer produces strategists and statesmen of Marshall's stature. Thanks to new sources on the general’s life and the military establishment through which he rose, this thorough, balanced, and wise book goes far in assessing that claim.”—John Lewis Gaddis, Pulitzer Prize-winning author of George F. Kennan: An American Life   “[An] authoritative and engaging biography…This well-written and captivating book will stand as the definitive biography of Marshall.”—Publishers Weekly, starred review   “A book as necessary as it is great. At a time when Americans are struggling to define what real leadership looks like, David Roll’s brilliant new portrait of George Marshall offers valuable clarity. An eminently human Marshall emerges, but one whose bedrock values and unwavering commitment to the responsibility of service can inspire us to live to a higher standard.”—General Stanley McChrystal, U.S. Army, Ret.   “David Roll’s George Marshall is a tonic for our troubled times. Roll brings to life the decency and strength of character that made Marshall one of America’s greatest soldiers and statesmen, showing how, for all his brilliance, Marshall always put his country first, rather than himself. He was reticent, disciplined, measured in his opinions, and magnanimous in his treatment of others—qualities that are so obviously missing from many of today’s leaders.”—David Ignatius, Washington Post columnist   “A hugely significant book on an American leader to wh

'Booker T. will forever be known as the Booker T. from Booker T. and the MGs. But this book reveals so much more of the man.'―Bob Dylan'Booker T. is a great producer, a great musician, and a great friend. Those three 'greats' together pretty much let you know how I feel about Booker. He and I worked together on many projects, all were fun-just like this book, which is as joyful to read as Booker's music is to listen to.'―Willie Nelson'Booker is simply one of the tenderest-hearted people I've ever met and I'm so honored to have ever been in his company. This beautiful memoir is a near perfect reflection of the man I would walk a million miles for: engaging, unforgettable, and deeply creative.'―Sinéad O'Connor'Booker, we love you and your genius ability to touch people's hearts with your organ, your music, and now your writing.'―Narada Michael Walden'The contributions by Booker T. Jones to American Popular Music are immeasurable. In Time is Tight, Booker digs deep into his soul, revealing much about the extraordinary music he has made over nearly six decades with artists as diverse as Otis Redding, Sam and Dave, Bill Withers, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Willie Nelson and, of course, Booker T. and the MG's. In between stories of musical greatness, the readers learns much about Booker's personal life and, in the process, the depth of his humanity. Intelligent and articulate to a fault, Time is Tight is one of the finest autobiographies that I have ever read.'―Rob Bowman'I have come to view Booker T and the MGs (the Mixed Group) as one of the backbones of American popular music, and if you listen to how Booker T Jones works that Hammond B3 organ on those classic songs, you realize he is playing his life, note for note. That's how it is in his memoir, Time Is Tight: With every page he strikes a heartfelt chord as he candidly reveals his life before and during his years at Stax Records, an era of racism and segregation that defined the city of Memphis, Tennessee and America. This book brings to light the honesty, grit, and integrity he displayed in his musical brilliance for more than six decades, a soundtrack of pure genius that transcends the human soul. I dare you to put this book down once you start reading it.'―Al Bell, former owner Stax Records, former President of The Motown Records Group'Time Is Tight is a whirlwind tour through Booker's incredible journey from his humble beginnings in Memphis through his tenure backing up the likes of Otis Redding, Sam and Dave, Albert King and Carla Thomas to his blossoming as an acclaimed producer and songwriter. Told with heart and soul and interspersed with loving memories of his wonderful family and talented cohorts. The story is also rife with the turbulent times he has lived through from the King assassination, the fall of Stax and Al Jackson's murder. “Chuck Schwab provides an engaging look into the investing world, balanced between his penchant for risk-taking with his grace and humility. He crafts a creative and highly rewarding story of not just Charles Schwab, the company, but Charles Schwab, the person. There are life lessons in this book for everyone, from Wall Street to Main Street.”—Condoleezza Rice, former U.S. Secretary of State and Denning Professor in Global Business and the Economy at the Stanford Graduate School of Business“By turns practical and personally insightful, Charles Schwab’s indefatigable spirit, sound judgement, and entrepreneurial experience shine through in Invested. Throughout his childhood and career, Chuck overcame challenges and set a standard of leadership and innovation throughout decades of change in our U.S. economic system.”—Jamie Dimon, chairman and CEO, JPMorgan Chase “Like myself, Chuck is a dyslexic. He learned early on that he had his limits and therefore—unlike most nondyslexics—discovered the power of delegation. He discovered that business is all about people who share your vision and values but bring their own passion and strengths to the tasks. He realized early on that the world is full of people more capable than himself in ‘a thousand different ways.’ Most leaders and entrepreneurs never learn that simple lesson. It was his dyslexia that helped him create one of the most successful companies in the US. Invested is a must-read for anyone interested in working in a business or becoming an entrepreneur. An extraordinary life and book.”—Sir Richard Branson, founder of the Virgin Group“Charles Schwab is a giant who transformed finance and investing for millions of Americans. His memoir is a textbook case on entrepreneurship and principled leadership.”—Hank Paulson, 74th Secretary of the Treasury “Through Chuck’s unique perspective, Invested details Schwab’s history as they persevered through adversity while providing wisdom and encouragement along the way. I have admired and respected Chuck for many years. We share a passion for golf and how its challenges parallel those encountered in business.”—Phil Mickelson “Chuck tells a story that very few can tell. It is a story of creativity, passion, and bravery trumping the odds. Chuck not only created the discount brokerage industry but grew a company in the face of market cycles and a rapidly changing and consolidating landscape. Chuck led the way in democratizing the market for the individual investor. I am proud to have been a partner with Chuck in the early days. I am especially proud to have him as a friend for the past fifty years.”—George R. Roberts, co-chairman and co-CEO, Kohlberg Kravis Roberts “We learn best from the stories of others, and you’ll be hard pressed to find one so interesting, inspiring, and educational as this one! An enriching read from a great and principled man.”—Steve Forbes, chairman and editor inchief, Forb

“Sarah Hurwitz writes beautifully about her journey from Hebrew school dropout to thoughtful commentator on her heritage. She shows how this system of thought, founded in the time of shepherds, can be surprisingly relevant to modern life, with wisdom on such contemporary topics as mindfulness, gratitude, work/life balance, and politics. I recommend this book to all, no matter where you lie on the religious spectrum.”—A. J. Jacobs, New York Times bestselling co-author of The Year of Living Biblically“Here All Along is exactly the introduction to Judaism that smart, thoughtful readers need: Not a how-to guide to these incredibly rich and relevant traditions, but a why-to guide that illuminates—boldly, bravely, and beautifully—why Judaism matters and how its wisdom can transform us. It's been here all along, but now it's here in the book in your hands, waiting for you. Open it, and discover what you've been missing.”—Dara Horn, author of Eternal Life“What an achievement—to have found a way to make every aspect of Judaism utterly accessible, digestible, and emotional all at once, in one riveting volume. This is an uncanny primer for anyone wanting to understand Judaism, and also a revealing portrait of one famous speechwriter who couldn’t believe what she’d been missing all along.”—Abigail Pogrebin, author of My Jewish Year: 18 Holidays, One Wondering Jew “Repeatedly drawing on her life experiences, Sarah Hurwitz paints a vision of a Judaism that is wise, intellectually rigorous, experiential, accessible—and, frankly, exciting. Even when I disagree with her, she invites me into her world. This is a book we have been waiting for, and Hurwitz is an important new voice on the Jewish scene.”—Rabbi Joseph Telushkin, author of Words That Hurt, Words That Heal and Jewish LiteracyFrom 2009 to 2017, Sarah Hurwitz worked in the White House, serving as head speechwriter for First Lady Michelle Obama and as a senior speechwriter for President Barack Obama. Prior to working in government, Hurwitz was the chief speechwriter for Hillary Clinton on her 2008 campaign for president and a speechwriter for Senator John Kerry and General Wesley Clark during the 2004 presidential election. The Number One New York Times Best SellerNew York Times Book Review 10 Best Books of 2017Pulitzer Prize winner Ron Chernow returns with a sweeping and dramatic portrait of one of our most compelling generals and presidents, Ulysses S. Grant. Ulysses S. Grant's life has typically been misunderstood. All too often he is caricatured as a chronic loser and an inept businessman or as the triumphant but brutal Union general of the Civil War. But these stereotypes don't come close to capturing him, as Chernow reveals in his masterful biography, the first to provide a complete understanding of the general and president whose fortunes rose and fell with dizzying speed and frequency. Before the Civil War, Grant was flailing. His business ventures had ended dismally, and despite distinguished service in the Mexican War, he ended up resigning from the army in disgrace amid recurring accusations of drunkenness. But in war, Grant began to realize his remarkable potential, soaring through the ranks of the Union army, prevailing at the battle of Shiloh and in the Vicksburg campaign, and ultimately defeating the legendary Confederate general Robert E. Lee. Along the way, Grant endeared himself to President Lincoln and became his most trusted general and the strategic genius of the war effort. Grant's military fame translated into a two-term presidency, but one plagued by corruption scandals involving his closest staff members. More important, he sought freedom and justice for black Americans, working to crush the Ku Klux Klan and earning the admiration of Frederick Douglass, who called him the vigilant

Amazon.com Casey Cep’s Furious Hours is composed of many parts, and any one of those parts would make a good book. Together, they make a great book, describing the elements of a gothic true crime set in the south, and then placing Harper Lee there to cover the trial and write about it. When relatives of the Reverend Willie Maxwell started dying in the 1970s, many locals suspected him of practicing voodoo. The police thought otherwise, noting that Maxwell had taken out life insurance policies on the deceased relatives; still, for years Maxwell managed to evade punishment. Justice eventually caught up with the Reverend when a relative shot him dead at his stepdaughter’s funeral. And that’s where Harper Lee comes in. Lee, who had assisted her friend Truman Capote in researching In Cold Blood, wanted to observe the vigilante’s trial with the idea of writing a book about it. Furious Hours sets one of our most beloved authors in an Alabama courtroom to watch the drama unfold. Then Cep describes the years when Harper Lee reportedly tried to write about the case. This is a story concerned with justice and the truth, but it is also about art, mystery, and our darkest temptations. —Chris Schluep, Amazon Book Review“She explains as well as it is likely ever to be explained why Lee went silent after To Kill a Mockingbird. (The clue’s in Cep’s title.) And it’s here, in her descriptions of another writer’s failure to write, that her book makes a magical little leap, and it goes from being a superbly written true-crime story to the sort of story that even Lee would have been proud to write.” —Michael Lewis, The New York Times Book Review'A compelling hybrid of a novel, at once a true-crime thriller, courtroom drama, and miniature biography of Harper Lee. If To Kill a Mockingbird was one of your favorite books growing up, you should add Furious Hours to your reading list today.” —Southern Living'Cep delivers edge-of-your-seat courtroom drama while brilliantly reinventing Southern Gothic…The result is an enthralling work of narrative nonfiction—Cep’s debut—and a poignant meditation on a book that never was.'—O Magazine'[A] well-told, ingeniously structured double mystery—one an unsolved serial killing, the other an elusive book—rich in droll humour and deep but lightly worn research'—The Economist“A brilliant take on the mystery of inspiration and the even darker mysteries of the human heart.” —People“What I didn't see coming was the emotional response I'd have as I blazed through the last 20 pages of the book — yet there I was, weeping…A gripping, incredibly well-written portrait of not only Harper Lee, but of mid-20th century Alabama — and a still-unanswered set of crimes to rival the serial killers made infamous in the same time period.” —Ilana Masad, NPR“Cep’s book is a marvel. In elegant prose, she gives us the fullest story yet of Lee’s post-Mockingbird life in New York–boozy, unproduct

One man. One mission. One incredible legacy of faith.Persecution of Christians is on the rise worldwide, especially in majority Muslim countries. Churches are bombed or burned, property is confiscated, individual believers are harassed or imprisoned, and in some places even the act of trying to share the gospel is illegal. But where there are obstacles there are also opportunities. Despite the difficulties of ministering in a country generally hostile to Christians, Andrew Brunson heeded God's call on his life. Let his story of faithfulness despite threats and persecution inspire you to a life of perseverance in the face of difficulty.|Andrew Brunson is an American pastor. He holds a PhD in New Testament from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland. Andrew and his wife, Norine, were involved in starting churches, training believers, aiding refugees, and a house of prayer in Turkey for twenty-three years until being falsely accused of terrorism in October 2016. After this, Andrew was held for two years in Turkish prisons. Due to a worldwide prayer movement and significant political pressure from the US government, he was finally sentenced to time served and dramatically released in October 2018.When God called, he answeredIn 1993, Andrew Brunson was asked to move to Turkey, the largest unevangelized country in the world, to serve as a missionary. Though reluctant at first because of the daunting task that lay ahead, Andrew and his wife, Norine, became convinced this was God's plan for them. What followed was a string of difficulties and threats, but there were also successes in starting new churches in a place where many people had never met a Christian. As their work with refugees from Syria, including Kurds, gained attention and suspicion, Andrew and Norine acknowledged the threat but accepted the risk, confident that this work was part of their assignment. In 2016, they were arrested. Though the state quickly released Norine, who remained in Turkey, Andrew was imprisoned. Accused of being a spy and being among the plotters of an attempted coup, he became a political pawn whose name was soon known around the world.God's Hostage is the incredible true story of his imprisonment, his brokenness, his faithfulness . . . and his freedom.See all Editorial Reviews

“The Last Castle is a soaring and gorgeous American story that gripped me from the very first page. With a historian’s keen insight and a poet’s gift for language, Denise Kiernan depicts life at Biltmore with such skill, I felt like I was there through it all: weddings, divorces, elaborate (and slightly bizarre) balls, financial glory, financial ruin, murder, suicide, natural disasters, betrayals, love, loss, despair, and triumph. The story of George and Edith Vanderbilt’s remarkable lives will stay with me for a long time to come.”   -- Karen Abbott, New York Times bestselling author of Liar, Temptress, Soldier, Spy“If you inherited billions, how would you spend it? Don't bother building America's largest and most lavish home. It's already been done in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, where more than a million visitors a year stroll the grounds of Biltmore Estate. Yet only in the pages of Denise Kiernan's The Last Castle will they come to know George Vanderbilt, the bookish heir who began Biltmore in his 20s, and his determined widow, Edith, who kept it alive as a working estate and a time capsule of the Gilded Age. In the pages of The Last Castle, Kiernan serves up a true tale of American excess, generosity, and perseverance.” -- Bill Dedman, New York Times bestselling author of Empty Mansions: The Mysterious Life of Huguette Clark and the Spending of a Great American Fortune'This is as much a story about the creation of Biltmore House as it is a window into what it was like to be an American at the turn of the 20th century. Kiernan makes Edith and George Vanderbilt, among the wealthiest Americans at the time, feel like living, breathing human beings navigating life's obstacles in this magnificent book. And she tells the story of how one fiercely devoted woman was able to save the home her husband loved.' -- -Kate Andersen Brower, author FIRST WOMEN: The Grace & Power of America's Modern First Ladies and THE RESIDENCE: Inside the Private World of the White House'The rich have secrets. In her well-researched and captivating book, Denise Kiernan tells the fascinating story of how a phenomenally wealthy Vanderbilt scion transformed a rural North Carolina town by building the ultimate rich man's folly and reveals the eccentricities, heartaches, and even money problems of these Social Register denizens and their friends and employees.' -- Meryl Gordon, author of Bunny Mellon: The Life of an American Style Legend'This is a timely and timeless American story of wealth and the responsibility and opportunity it carries. In Kiernan’s hands, this mashup of Downton Abbey-like extravagance set amid the “rugged mountain simplicity” of Appalachia reads like a Southern fairy tale — Brothers Grimm meets Gone with the Wind. A passionately researched family saga of death and divorce, suicide and sickness, fortunes gained and lost, spanning two world wars and set at the crux of the Gilded Age yielding to the modern era, The Last Castle is ultimately a s

[Larson’s] book is nothing less than an encyclopedic chronicle of a rip-roaring American adventure.”—The San Antonio Express-News   “Skillfully written . . . Larson’s book includes several maps that help readers understand the workings of the Underground Railroad. . . . Larson present[s] a richly drawn portrait of Tubman as a deeply spiritual woman, a ‘Moses’ and ‘Joan of Ark’ as contemporaries were wont to describe her.”—The Charlotte Observer  “An engrossing biography of an extraordinary woman.”—Green Bay Press–Gazette  “Mesmerizing and exceedingly well-documented . . . As Larson recounts in absorbing incident after absorbing incident, the brilliant Harriet Tubman was courageous, witty, and as determined as a body could be.”—Bay State Banner   “Historian Kate Clifford Larson gives Tubman the powerful, intimate, meticulously detailed life she deserves.” —The Herald American  “A marvel of impressive scholarship and lucid prose.”—The Seattle Times   “Although Tubman’s life story has been told before, it has never been told in such a comprehensive way.”—(Salt Lake City) Deseret Morning News   “Larson’s thorough and readable effort is a must for armchair historians who haven’t looked at Tubman in a while, if ever.”—Cape Cod TimesFrom the AuthorRead BOUND FOR THE PROMISED LAND and SEE the movie HARRIET!!See all Editorial Reviews

'This non-fiction book by Becca Anderson would make an excellent reference book and is also, at the same time extremely readable. It was fun to go through and learn about famous women, who are presented in a way that kept me reading and wanting to learn more. The title, cleverly, says it all. The chapters are divided into women who broke boundaries of race, gender and personal obstacles to be overcome; those who fought for freedom from the earliest days to the twenty-first century; Sheroes some of whom were my personal heroes as a young girl and as an adult; and those females who dared to be the first to do whatever needed to be done.' - PowerfulReadingWomen.com'Reading this book filled me with happiness and I just felt so amazed by what the women within this book have accomplished. While I recognized a number them in certain sections I was just so wowed by the intense level of detail provided by Anderson throughout. It is impossible to pick a favorite chapter as each was so informative and provided me with so much new knowledge. This read is absolutely a must for anyone interested in history or even just looking to expand their knowledge in a meaningful way. Beyond her detailed work throughout the book Anderson provides a bibliography for those interested in doing additional research. She also includes a card you can submit at the end of the book to nominate women you think deserve to be recognized as awesome. I thought this was a wonderful idea and hope she receives a number of submissions. The Book of Awesome Women shares stories and triumphs that are not often mentioned in mainstream history and is something you absolutely need to check out.'- Nerdy Girl Express'Now is the time to acknowledge the greatness of women!' - Stylish Southern Mama'A min-expanding book that will make you smarter!' - Fupping.com'It is time to acknowledge the successful women of the world. From the foremothers who blazed trails and broke barriers, to today’s women warriors from sports, science, cyberspace, city hall, the lecture hall, and the silver screen, The Book of Awesome Women paints 200 portraits of powerful and inspiring role models for women and girls poised to become super women of the future.'- SoCalCityKids'Brava to all these brave women! Women have been left out of history for far too long. There is much to be learned from these women who paved the way for all of us through courage, daring and smarts.' Ntozake Shange, author of For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enough'This book is an antidote to the erasure of women from our history. These bold and colorful portraits reveal women who dared to pursue their dreams. In that pursuit, they themselves become the raw material, the ideal matrix for other women's dreams.' -Vicki Leon, author of Uppity Women of Ancient TimesThese women kick ass and should be household names. “Superb… Among the best books ever written about an American corporation… Not since Andrew Ross Sorkin’s landmark Too Big to Fail (2009) have I said this about a book, but Kochland warrants it: If you’re in business, this is something you need to read.” — Bryan Burrough, The New York Times Book Review “Kochland is a dazzling feat of investigative reporting and epic narrative writing, a tour de force that takes the reader deep inside the rise of a vastly powerful family corporation that has come to influence American workers, markets, elections, and the very ideas debated in our public square. Leonard’s work is fair and meticulous, even as it reveals the Kochs as industrial Citizens Kane of our time.” — Steve Coll, Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Private Empire“Leonard’s visionary, decade-spanning, and heart-rending investigation into the Koch Empire is indispensable not just for understanding the rise of corporate power in America, but for understanding America itself. Kochland will take its place alongside Chernow’s Titan and Coll’s Private Empire as one of the great accounts of American capitalism.” — Jesse Eisinger, Pulitzer Prize winner and author of The Chickenshit Club“A Robert Caro-like narrative of business and political power with a brilliant, ruthless, and fascinating monopolist at its center. Leonard devoted eight years to this gem of a book, seeking to understand the mysterious Charles Koch and the Goliath he has taken a half century to construct.” — Ken Auletta, New York Times bestselling author of Googled “Deeply and authoritatively reported... [Kochland] marshals a huge amount of information and uses it to help solve two enduring mysteries: how the Kochs got so rich, and how they used that fortune to buy off American action on climate change.” — Jane Mayer, The New Yorker“Impressive… A corporate history, lucidly told, about the enormous energy conglomerate that has inserted itself into nearly every aspect of daily life, raking in billions along the way.” — The New York Times“This is fast-paced business history. An episode about ammonia runoff at an oil refinery keeps you turning pages like a John Grisham thriller.” — NPR.org“With deep reporting and narrative flair, Leonard has rendered a revealing portrait of the Koch family as ruthless businessmen and savvy political operatives who quietly built an empire and defined the face of American capitalism and its hold on Washington over the last fifty years.” — William Cohan, New York Times bestselling author of House of Cards“Impressive… Kochland is the most definitive account yet of how one of America’s richest and most powerful families amassed its fortune.” — The Washington Post “If you want a crash course in the evolution of postmodern capitalism over the last five decades read Kochland.” —

“Honest, original and absolutely remarkable . . . elegant but unpretentious writing . . . There are so many things to admire about Horror Stories, it’s hard to list them all. It’s a memoir with an original and fascinating structure. [Phair] mostly avoids writing about her own songs, and while this may seem to be an odd choice, it’s actually quite refreshing—her music, she seems to indicate, can speak for itself.”—NPR“[A] uniquely thoughtful, self-aware memoir . . . bracing and refreshing . . . Horror Stories is more an archipelago of intense episodes of unknowing with the implicit understanding that life is a wayward, unresolvable business. . . . [A] rigorously open exploration of negative capability.”—The New York Times“Like a batch of interrelated Phair songs, each chapter a separate and specific story, all together accumulating into an intimate self-portrait . . . with equal parts elegance, humor, and authenticity.”—The Boston Globe“Liz Phair’s songwriting has always had the rare quality of being short-story-like. Damn good short stories, too. Horror Stories has that unique Liz Phair ability to make you look at something you’d rather not, but once you do you’re glad you did—like any form of honest art. This is why Liz Phair still is, and always will be, a threat.”—Ben Folds   “Horror Stories cracks open the idea of fear itself to see what's inside. Liz Phair’s stories are heartbreaking and inspiring, galvanizing and contemplative. This memoir is as much about the poignant luminosity of the subjects upon which Phair fixes her gaze as it is about the darkness she shows us. Witnessing her examine the moments that have stayed with her over the years is captivating: a literary triumph by a musical icon.”—Lily Brooks-Dalton, author of Good Morning, Midnight   “Horror Stories is a collection of turning points, plucked free of ongoing time and their original settings. Gathered, they sparkle eerily, expanding to occupy an entire remembered year—maybe even an entire remembered self.”—Sarah Manguso, author of Ongoingness: The End of a Diary   “Liz Phair’s Horror Stories is a deeply personal narrative about a groundbreaking musician’s intense love affair with life, with all its turbulent highs and lows. It is also about those things that have sustained Phair since childhood: the wonder and healing power of nature, music, and family. A compelling blend of riveting prose and soaring lyricism, Horror Stories is as enthralling and as addictive as Phair's music.”—Mira Bartók, New York Times bestselling author of The Memory Palace, winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award“A debut memoir as candid as her music . . . This powerful debut will delight Phair’s many fans.”—Publishers Weekly (starred review)Liz Phair is a Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter whose debut album, Exile in Guyville, has been hailed as a landmark of indie ro
